Famagusta Municipality has intensified its efforts to upgrade the city’s water infrastructure, investing 8 million TL to meet the rising demand for potable water, particularly in the summer months. Key projects include the Anadolu and Harika Neighborhood Pipe Laying Project, Main Water Tank Uninterrupted Electricity Generator Reinforcement Project, and the Main Water Tank Centrifugal Pump Purchase and HDPE Pipe Installation Project—all completed within a year.
Additionally, a Scada system has been introduced for advanced water management. This computer-controlled system will monitor and record the main water tank and neighborhood water networks, allowing remote intervention in case of issues.
For the Anadolu and Harika neighborhoods, which have historically faced water shortages due to their location and elevation, a 225-millimeter main water network pipe was installed over 1,700 meters, thanks to collaboration with the Water Affairs Department. This upgrade provides these areas with direct water from Turkey, eliminating reliance on local well water.
Infrastructure Enhancements for Better Water Distribution
The main water tank’s performance was boosted with new high-performance centrifugal pumps and reinforced electrical infrastructure. To prevent interruptions due to power cuts, a generator was also installed to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply for the main water tank.
Mayor Süleyman Uluçay Emphasizes Water Security
Famagusta Mayor Süleyman Uluçay highlighted the critical role of both drinking and utility water in daily life. Uluçay stressed that ongoing investments are essential in combating water scarcity and emphasized the importance of conserving water resources in the face of climate change, which has intensified global water crises and threatens clean water supplies.
