The Presidency has issued a strong statement condemning the actions of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) administration, accusing them of targeting President Ersin Tatar, who, with the full backing of Turkey, continues to confirm the inherent rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.
The statement criticizes the CTP administration for supporting the Greek Cypriot position and advocating policies that, according to the Presidency, perpetuate the status quo and harm national interests. The Presidency emphasized that since taking office, President Tatar has advanced a new national policy that insists on the confirmation of sovereign equality and equal international status as prerequisites for any new and official negotiation process.
It was also noted that under Tatar’s leadership, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) achieved a milestone by becoming an observer member of an international organization under its constitutional name for the first time. This was seen during the TRNC's participation in the Organization of Turkic States, where it was involved in various political, professional, and civil society events, as well as sports and cultural activities. The TRNC’s flag was represented alongside other member states' flags, a development that the Presidency claims the CTP administration finds troubling.
The statement further addressed the criticism of Tatar’s handling of domestic issues, stating, “President Tatar’s sensitive approach to the problems and crises in our country has also disturbed the CTP administration.” It reiterated that Tatar’s consultations with relevant parties to resolve these issues and protect the state’s interests are part of his duty as President.
The statement continued by accusing the CTP of working to undermine national policy and rejecting President Tatar’s efforts to end the isolation of the Turkish Cypriot people. “Mr. President has said that he will not continue the processes that have condemned our people to isolation for so many years,” the statement declared, condemning CTP’s efforts to maintain the status quo.
The Presidency further criticized the CTP for its past promises, including “villa with a pool” pledges, which they claim have long expired. They also accused the CTP of using every crisis as a platform for personal ambition, while Tatar, in contrast, continues to assert the sovereignty of the Turkish Cypriot people.
The statement concluded by affirming that President Tatar will present the national policy at an informal dinner in New York and will invite the Greek side to cooperate. It ended with a declaration of trust: “Our people have full trust and support for Mr. President.”
