National Unity Party (UBP) Deputy Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu and Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Deputy Armağan Candan participated in key discussions in Strasbourg regarding the work of the Immovable Property Commission (TMK). These meetings were part of their participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) General Assembly sessions.
According to a statement from the Assembly, the deputies responded to criticisms raised by Southern Cyprus representatives at PACE, who questioned the effectiveness of the TMK and the legality of real estate sales in the TRNC. Hasipoğlu and Candan provided detailed information about the TMK's operations during the General Assembly meetings and bilateral talks.
The delegation also met with officials from the Council of Europe’s Directorate General for Human Rights and Rule of Law, providing updated information on the TMK's work. Council of Europe officials reaffirmed that the TMK is an effective domestic legal remedy and emphasized the importance of its continued operation.
While in Strasbourg, Hasipoğlu and Candan participated in working meetings of the “Law and Human Rights”, “Political Affairs and Democracy” and “Migration and Refugees” committees, in addition to the PACE General Assembly meetings. Hasipoğlu attended the European Conservatives and Democratic Alliance (EC/DA) group meeting, while Candan participated in the Socialists, Democrats, and Greens (SOC) group meeting.
The deputies also held a working session with the Turkish delegation to PACE, led by Tuğrul Türkeş. During their engagements, the TRNC Strasbourg Representative Selda Çimen and other officials from the Republican Assembly’s press and protocol division accompanied the delegation.
