  • 2024-09-24

The Council of Ministers has approved the "Regulation on the Transfer of Low Forest Lands" under the authority granted by Article 8 of the Law on Transfer and Lease of Low Forest Lands. The regulation, now published in the Official Gazette, outlines the procedures for determining rightful owners of state lands obtained by clearing low forests before January 1, 1955, and used as agricultural land.

The regulation aims to transfer ownership rights to the actual possessors of these lands and includes guidelines on the meeting and working methods of the Declaration Examination Commission and the Examination and Objection Commission. It also specifies the forms to be used, the experts required, and the documentation needed to determine rightful ownership. The regulation will cease to be valid after six months.

Speaking to the Turkish Agency Cyprus (TAK), Forestry Department Director Ercan Poyraz explained that the regulation applies to those who obtained forest land by clearing low-lying forests before 1955 and have been using the land for agriculture since that time, as well as their legal heirs.
