Two-time FIFA World Footballer of the Year Ronaldinho touched down at Ercan (Tymbou) Airport in northern Cyprus on Thursday night. The Brazilian football icon was warmly welcomed by local media and received a bouquet of flowers upon his arrival.
Ronaldinho, now 44, is visiting northern Cyprus to attend the International Summit Awards, an event organized by the Turkish media group Pars International. The awards ceremony will take place at a hotel in the village of Ayios Epiktitos.
During his illustrious football career, Ronaldinho won the FIFA World Cup in 2002 and the UEFA Champions League in 2006. He also earned numerous other trophies while playing for teams such as FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and the Brazilian national team.
Since retiring in 2015, Ronaldinho has faced legal issues, including an arrest in Paraguay for attempting to enter the country with a counterfeit passport.
