The long-awaited maintenance and repair of the connection road between Güvercinlik Junction and the Old Famagusta Main Road has officially begun. The project is a collaboration between the Highways Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, Famagusta Municipality, and Beyarmudu Municipality.

Site Visit by Officials

Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı, accompanied by Famagusta Mayor Süleyman Uluçay and Beyarmudu Mayor Bülent Bebek, visited the project site to review the plans. Kazım Kafaoğlu, Director of the Highways Department, briefed the officials on the ongoing work.

Project Scope and Details

• Road Specifications: The road is approximately 900 meters long and eight meters wide.
• Cost: The tender price for the project is 10 million 879 thousand 300 TL plus VAT, excluding asphalt coating.
• Timeline: Initially scheduled for completion within six months, the contracted company has committed to finishing the project within two months.
• Responsibility Allocation:
  • Sub-base and foundation work: Highways Department.
  • Asphalt paving: Jointly handled by Famagusta Municipality and Beyarmudu Municipality.

Minister Arıklı's Statement

Minister Arıklı highlighted the deteriorated state of the road, which is heavily used by local residents and businesses, including concrete plants along the route.

“This road was in dire need of repairs for many years, but previous efforts to renew it were unsuccessful. Through cooperation with Gazimağusa Municipality and Beyarmudu Municipality, we are finally addressing the demands of businesses and residents,” said Arıklı.

He further expressed satisfaction with the collaborative approach to resolving long-standing infrastructure issues and meeting the community's needs.
