Cooperation Between Famagusta Municipality and SAMTAY Foundation Renewed with Protocol

  • 2024-12-31

Famagusta Municipality and the Suna and Ata Atun Famagusta History Research and Literature Foundation (SAMTAY) have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting those in need through the renewal of a food distribution protocol.

The protocol, signed by Famagusta Mayor Dr. Süleyman Uluçay and SAMTAY Foundation Board of Trustees Chairman Sunat Atun, was formalized during a ceremony at the SAMTAY Foundation Library. The renewed collaboration ensures the continued operation of the Suna Mother Solidarity Kitchen, which provides hot meals to vulnerable members of the community.

    Supporting Families in Need

Mayor Uluçay emphasized the significance of the protocol in aiding many families in Famagusta who require support. He acknowledged the late Suna Atun, after whom the kitchen is named, as a compassionate individual deeply loved by the Famagusta community.

“The great support shown by Suna Atun and her family, whose ideals are kept alive through this kitchen, is truly commendable. This collaboration between SAMTAY Foundation, Suna Anne Kitchen, and Famagusta Municipality will continue to ensure that more people in need are supported,” said Uluçay.

    Strengthening Social Solidarity

Chairman Sunat Atun noted that this marks the third renewal of the soup kitchen project between SAMTAY Foundation and Famagusta Municipality. He highlighted the importance of the project, particularly in assisting the elderly and disabled residents of Famagusta, as a reflection of social solidarity, a cornerstone of Turkish Cypriot culture.

“At the Suna Anne Solidarity Kitchen, established by our foundation, we have prioritized expanding its potential through this cooperation. This project, which embodies inclusiveness and a commitment to service, is a valuable example for other districts,” said Atun.

He paid tribute to his late mother, Suna Atun, describing her as a person dedicated to supporting those in need. “She believed she had something to give to society and acted with that mindset throughout her life. The continuation of this project aligns with her values and vision,” he added.

    A Model for Other Districts

Both Mayor Uluçay and Chairman Atun expressed their hopes for the project’s longevity and its ability to reach every person in need in Famagusta. Atun praised the sincere and constructive approach of Mayor Uluçay and extended gratitude to everyone involved in the project from both the municipality and the foundation.

This renewed protocol underscores the importance of community partnerships in fostering social support and setting an example for other regions in Northern Cyprus.
