Ercan Airport Gears Up for Heavy Traffic Around New Year

    Ercan Airport, the gateway to the world for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), is preparing for a bustling schedule around the New Year. The airport is set to serve 115 aircraft on January 1, 2025, marking the first day of the new year with thousands of passengers arriving and departing.

    Busy Week at Ercan Airport

    T&T Airport Operations announced that Ercan Airport will handle 691 flights between December 28, 2024, and January 3, 2025. The busiest days are expected to be December 29, 2024, with 114 flights, and January 1, 2025, with 115 flights. Airlines such as Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Ajet Airlines, Sun Express, Fly Cyprus Airways, and Freebird Airlines have increased their flight frequencies to accommodate the surge in demand.

    Flight Breakdown

    • January 1, 2025: 115 flights (55 arrivals, 60 departures)
    • December 29, 2024: 114 flights (55 arrivals, 59 departures)
    • December 30, 2024: 100 flights (50 arrivals, 50 departures)
    • December 31, 2024 (New Year’s Eve): 75 flights (38 arrivals, 37 departures)

    Preparations for Safe and Comfortable Travel

    T&T Airport Operations General Manager M. Serhat Özçelik emphasized the measures taken to ensure smooth travel during the peak period. Additional personnel have been assigned to operations, security, and cleaning teams to enhance passenger experience. Coordination with airlines, the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, Civil Aviation, and other stakeholders has also been prioritized to manage the increased traffic efficiently.
