The Dipkarpaz Environmental Protection and Social Activity Association has urged authorities to allocate historical structures in the Karpaz region to the local youth, proposing their use in tourism and agricultural production. The association warns that failure to address youth unemployment could lead to an increase in migration from the area.
In a written statement, Association President Fırat Borak highlighted the importance of utilizing historical structures to support the region’s eco-tourism development. He cautioned against converting these structures into reinforced concrete buildings, stating, “Such practices strip the region of its natural and historical richness.”
Borak emphasized that restoring and repurposing these buildings for tourism would not only preserve the area's cultural heritage but also create job opportunities for the youth, reducing unemployment.
The association called for the introduction of an incentive system to facilitate the use of these historical structures in tourism and agriculture. “Economic planning tailored to the region’s needs is crucial,” Borak stated. He also stressed the necessity of development plans aimed at fostering economic growth and stability for the region’s younger generation.
Without urgent action, Borak warned, migration from Karpaz would be inevitable as youth seek opportunities elsewhere.
This appeal underscores the importance of sustainable development in Karpaz, balancing the preservation of its rich heritage with the socio-economic needs of its community.
