Ercan Airport Achieves Record Growth in Passenger and Aircraft Numbers

    Ercan Airport, the largest airport in Cyprus, continues to experience remarkable growth in passenger and aircraft traffic following the opening of its modernized facilities and extended runway. The new runway, now 3,000 meters long, accommodates larger aircraft and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, making Ercan Airport a key hub in the region.

    According to T&T Airport Operations, the number of passengers increased by 21.14% and the number of aircraft by 14.85% in the 11-month period between January-November 2023 and January-November 2024.

    Passenger Growth Figures

    In the first 11 months of 2023, 3,637,741 passengers used the old Ercan Airport. This figure rose to 4,406,672 during the same period in 2024, marking a significant milestone for the newly upgraded airport.

    Month-by-month analysis shows impressive growth:

    • January 2024: 334,510 passengers (33.2% increase from 251,466 in 2023)
    • February 2024: 354,960 passengers (56.99% increase from 226,108 in 2023)
    • March 2024: 336,020 passengers (31.10% increase from 256,313 in 2023)
    • April 2024: 360,026 passengers (28.7% increase from 281,118 in 2023)
    • May 2024: 388,915 passengers (16.14% increase from 334,879 in 2023)
    • July 2024: 426,718 passengers (16.2% increase from 367,393 in 2023)
    • November 2024: 469,934 passengers (26.9% increase from 370,570 in 2023)

    Aircraft Traffic Growth

    The upgraded runway and additional jet bridges have also facilitated a rise in aircraft traffic:

    • In the first 11 months of 2023, 24,319 aircraft used Ercan Airport. By the same period in 2024, this figure had increased to 27,931, a 14.85% rise.
    • Notable monthly increases included:
      • January 2024: 2,301 aircraft (up from 1,848 in 2023)
      • October 2024: 2,947 aircraft (up from 2,487 in 2023)
      • November 2024: 3,034 aircraft (up from 2,425 in 2023)
