Aziz Gülbahar, Chairman of the National Struggle Foundation, reaffirmed his support for a two-state agreement in Cyprus, emphasizing the foundation’s commitment to the political and legal struggle until the Greek Cypriot side acknowledges this solution. In a written statement, Gülbahar underlined the importance of sovereignty for both states, coupled with cooperation for mutual benefit.
Gülbahar stressed that stepping back from the two-state vision would lead to the erosion of Turkish Cypriot rights, pave the way for a return to the pre-1974 period, and risk Turkey’s removal from Cyprus. He stated, “A two-state agreement where the Turkish Cypriots govern their own state and the Greek Cypriots govern theirs is the most logical path forward.”
Gülbahar noted the international turmoil but called the TRNC a center of trust and peace despite its challenges. He expressed confidence in the solvability of existing problems, saying that leaders who prioritize national interests will eventually bring success and stability to the Turkish Cypriot people.
Referring to public sentiment, Gülbahar pointed out that the majority of Turkish Cypriots favor a two-state solution, value Turkey’s military presence and guarantorship, and distrust the Greek Cypriot administration. He criticized those who benefit from the TRNC while acting against its people’s aspirations, stating that such actions will not go unnoticed.
The foundation called on authorities to enact laws safeguarding the family structure, national unity, and the state against external influences, warning that public dissatisfaction is growing. Gülbahar urged immediate action to address these concerns and ensure the preservation of Turkish Cypriot values and sovereignty.
