A meeting titled “Opportunities for Investment and Doing Business in the TRNC” was organized by the Turkey-TRNC Business Council and the Foreign Investments Business Council under the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK). Held at the Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Commerce (KTTO), the event brought together key officials, including Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia, Yasin Ekrem Serim, Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu, and business leaders from the TRNC and Turkey.
The meeting highlighted investment opportunities in Northern Cyprus and focused on strengthening economic ties between the two regions. Presentations were followed by bilateral discussions to facilitate business collaboration.
Ambassador Yasin Ekrem Serim emphasized Turkey’s commitment to the TRNC’s economic development, announcing the allocation of 110 million TL in grants for industries such as tourism, agriculture, and energy. He highlighted the importance of diversifying the TRNC economy towards production and exports, calling for private sector cooperation in areas like free zones, industrial zones, and fin-tech. He also noted ongoing support for entrepreneurs, particularly women and youth, through funding initiatives that have provided 65 million TL since 2016.
Minister Olgun Amcaoğlu outlined new measures to attract investors and enhance economic infrastructure. He discussed revised legislation that prioritizes production in industrial zones, the implementation of energy laws, and the introduction of digital systems to improve transparency in pricing and fuel management. Amcaoğlu highlighted plans to launch an EU-supported product safety laboratory in 2025 and stressed the need for a technology-driven approach to ensure sustainable economic growth.
KTTO President Turgay Deniz underscored the TRNC’s potential in key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, software, and energy. He emphasized the role of modern agricultural practices and water resources from Turkey in transforming the agricultural sector. Deniz also highlighted opportunities in expanding bed capacity in tourism and noted the significant potential in the software sector, driven by the 100,000-strong student population studying in the TRNC.
