The Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) has announced a financial contribution of 160,000 euros from the German government, raising Germany's total support for the CMP to 960,000 euros since 2006. This funding aids the CMP’s mission of locating, identifying, and returning the remains of missing persons to their families, helping to end years of uncertainty for affected families.
Established in 1981 by Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders under the auspices of the United Nations, the CMP became active in 2006 with EU funding. Since then, the committee has identified and returned the remains of 1,051 missing persons from both communities, ensuring they receive a proper funeral.
The CMP continues to rely on donor support to sustain this bi-communal humanitarian project.
